Mental Health Report Announcements: Initiative Releases a Revealing Report on Mental Health Stigmatization
neuro "A report commissioned by Director Shaheen Lakhan and reported by researcher and faculty member Christine Loftus entitled "Mental Health Stigmatization: A Report of the Neuroscience Initiative" reveals the evolving nature and societal conceptions of mental health and mental illness. The report describes the devastating affects of stigmatization and discrimination, even practiced by medical professionals, and how the Initiative seeks to combat such practices (the Living with a Brain Disorder project and Ethics In Mental Health campaign)."

Neuroscience Initiative Announcements: NSI Welcomes DiDanieli as Director of Biomedical Literature
neuro "The Neuroscience Initiative welcomes Maria DiDanieli as the Director of Biomedical Literature. DiDanieli was formally educated in human biology and has an extensive career in medical research, clinical neurophysiology, and medical writing. She will direct the biomedical writings of the Initiative, including the Knowledge Center and Neuropsychiatry for Kids mental health disorder descriptions for young students. She is also instrumental in the launching of the Initiative's novel scholarly publication Brain Sciences & Neuropsychiatry."

Neuroscience Initiative Announcements: Call for Articles for the NSI Knowledge Center
neuro "The Neuroscience Initiative has launched a Knowledge Center informatory database. The Initiative is requesting articles and news pieces on a broad range of neuroscience and neuropsychiatry related fields, including, but not limited to, Alzheimer's disease, Autism, Bipolar Disorder, Parkinson's disease, Schizophrenia, Mental Health Stigmatization, Pharmacology, Psychosocial Interventions, Neuro-technologies, Neuro-informatics, Neuro-chemical Studies, and Molecular Neuropsychiatry.  Visit the Call for Articles section for further information and how to contribute."

Neuropsychiatry for Kids Announcements: MERLOT Animation Posting from NSI
neuro "Shaheen Lakhan (Neuroscience Initiative), Annegret Reimann (Fruitcake Illustration and Web Design), and Dimitri Kokkinos (PixelCore Studio) have teamed to create an interactive Flash educational animation primarily for young students to instruct of common mental health conditions. It has been listed in the MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) material directory."

The ultimate aim of the animation is to reduce negative stigmatization and improve future coping abilities. Each condition is associated with a character alongside a brief comprehendible description.

Journal of Integrative Neuroscience Announcements: NSI Gains Critical Affiliation with the J. of Integrative Neuroscience
neuro "Editor-in-Chief Prof. Gilbert Chauvet accepted an affiliation invitation from NSI. The Neuroscience Initiative will harbor the Journal's forums to discuss experiment designs and methodologies, particularly regarding the mathematical approach. The Journal published a board range of articles, encompassing all aspects of integration in the brain.

Articles are available via the Neuroscience Initiative website, as well as a discussion forum."

Journal of Neurological Sciences Announcements: J. of Neurological Sciences Partners with the Neuroscience Initiative
neuro "Prof. Nezih Oktar, Editor of the Journal of Neurological Sciences (Turkish), Ege University Medical School, engaged in supporting the Neuroscience Initiative via an official journal-initiative affiliation. The journal publishes original research papers, case reports, and article-book reviews on all aspects of the neurological sciences.

The journal publishes peer-review articles in Anatomy, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Physiology, Psychiatry/Psychology, Theoretical Neuroscience, and other topics.

The Neuroscience Initiative provides full-text open access to articles and a discussion forum for authors and Editorial members, before and after submission."
