Division --> Certificate Program in Emergency Management
(Offered in Collaboration with the San Fernando Valley Medical Reserve
A Presidential Executive Order called for the development of the Citizen
Corps under the Department of Homeland Security. Under the Citizen Corps and in
sponsorship by the Office of the Surgeon General, produce the Medical Reserve
Corps. Under by the Global Neuroscience Initiative Foundation, the
San Fernando Valley Medical Reserve
Corps (SFV-MRC) will serve the nearly two million residents of Arleta, Burbank, Calabasas,
Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Hidden Hills, Glendale, Granada Hills, North
Hollywood, Mission Hills, Northridge, Pacoima, Studio City, San Fernando,
Sherman Oaks, Sun Valley, Sylmar, Tujunga, Van Nuys, and Woodland Hills.
The SFV-MRC aims to unify and coordinate the efforts of medical and public
health volunteers/centers; commercial and non-profit organizations; and law,
fire and other emergency response programs to ensure that communities are
working collaboratively in order to meet local emergency needs as they arise.
The ultimate purpose of the SFV-MRC is to develop a systematic, efficient, and
effective method for providing public education and training opportunities,
stimulating wide-spread participation, and organizing volunteer programs to
increase the safety of our community.
The Certificate Program in Emergency Management will utilize courses
developed for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Higher Education Project,
special courses designed for the SFV-MRC, and contracted experts to address
disaster and emergency management education in a national and unified scope.
The Certificate Program requirements are being development and will be offered
online and in person.
